File Data Compression issue

Currently we are using Symantec NetbackUp 7.6.0.4 for master/media server and for the backup clients, running under Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. Tape library is Dell PowerVault TL4000 with LTO 6 tape cartridges for backup duplication. We all knew that LTO 6 can accomodate up to 6.25TB capacity. However, the duplicated file only eats up around around 2.5TB and shows in the Media Status is 'Full' . Refer to the snapshot below:

lto6 tape issue.PNG

It seems that the compression does not work. Please help, thanks.

SSO and FC I/O Blade configuration question

Hi,

We are running NetBackup 7.6.0.4 with a Quantum I500 utilizing SSO, and I have a question about the Host Mapping of the medium changer.  According to the Quantum manual:

There is also an internal (i.e., not attached to a port) controller device

presented at LUN 0 by default. The controller device facilitates

initialization and device discovery. In some instances it may be useful to

map the controller device to a different LUN if an application typically

expects to see a media changer device (partition) or tape drive at LUN 0.

Does NetBackup expect the media change to be mapped to LUN 0?  Currently we have the medium changer mapped to LUN 1 and it seems to be causing issues with the drives on the blade were this mapping is set.  Below is a screenshot of the mapping:

Hello Geeks !

We have netbackup 7.5.0.6 Environment. Every time we restore a Virtual machine from any backup it gets added in vcenter inventory and our VM team is looking for an option to avoid this as they don't want any restore to be added in inventory automatically.

Any way we can avoid this from happening.

the backup failed to back up the requested files(6)

Observations:

  • It will backup if the transport method is set to NBT (takes too long to be a solution)
  • We did have some succes a few weeks ago with the following settings using SAN (no longer works)
    • Backing only the C drive with quiescing disabled
    • Backing only the data drive with quiescing disabled
  • Its not an issue with the media server seeing the datastore as other VMs backup with SAN transport without problem

I see nothing in documentation that says the VM is too big and other than the size, the configuration of the VM is no different than any other we have.

We've had multiple requests open with both VMWare and Symantec and we don't see to get any real feedback.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Backup time in Windows Server 2008 with Netbackup 7.6.0.2

Hi guys,

First of all sorry for writing a second post about some doubts, but I hope to give more points too!!

Im using Symantec Netbackup 7.6.0.2 on a few servers running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010.

From an answer from another post I've used bpclimagelist -client DAG_NAME -ct 16 ,and I've got a very nice report with all the backups on my client (almost all the information I need), but I need a bit more of info for each backup : "How much time is taking each backup", just to see if they are overlapping and saturating the server with FULLs and INCRs.

I dont have access to any central console (the backup team is another department, and they don't flow correctly the information ) so, I need something on the client to show how much time is taking each backup, if that's possible.

Thanks a lot in advance for all the help, you are great.

San based data store backup from netbackup

Hi team,
I read somewhere , In order to take San based data store backup we need to present those datastore luns to media server .
We only need to present the luns to media server or some other step also required?…...those luns should be in read only mode or read/write both?

Oracle client backups are failing with 233

The oracle client is failing to take a backup , intermittently it is giving db_Image failed: End of file encountered 233. the other backup policies are successfully executed.

Client and Server are on Netbackup 6.5.6

Troubleshooting: Increased the virtual memory, created the MAX_FILES_PER_ADD touch file on the media server and set the number to 100,000 no success.

NBU Design

Hi,

I need some guidelines in designing a backup and recovery environment.

I listed some questions. Please add some more or correct me.

  • Is there an existing backup environment
  • Data to be backed up - size and file types
  • OS
  • Is replication to DR needed?
  • Connection, speed, network topology, bandwidth
  • backup window
  • Retention period
  • Number of copies to be retained
  • Future plans/consolidations
  • number of hosts

Thank you!

SLP from VTL to VTL - Optimize Duplication?

Necesito una solución

Hi,

I have a question regarding SLP and optimize duplication.I have 2 VTL's located in 2 different location under the same NetBackup domain. The VTL is actually create on a HP StoreOnce device which has deduplication & replication capability. In this case when SLP is triggered, the duplication traffic will it be via the media servers? Or it will be only between the 2 VTL?

In what scenario where Optimize Duplication be possible in my case?

Regards,

Jeffrey
