I have a request from user to restore data from LTO4 tape cartridge that already expired and the only drive we have is LTO6. We all know LTO6 drive still can read LTO4 tape, but in import phase 2 none of them is success. I have serach thorough the forum, but only have for backup process not import process.

The tape autoloader is already detected by Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
If there we're documents to be read, Im willing to read them.

I would like if someone could help on a particular problem I meet with a windows backup host upgrade
We have upgraded our master to 7.6.0.4 last week
Yesterday I have upgraded my backup host from 7.1.0.4 to 7.6.0.4
Now all the backups in my flashbackup policy fail with status code 6, I got below error in the jb detail

I do not understand why the san transport is no more available, while I can see in the vcenter GUI snapshot creation successful

Im just confused about how the netbackup restore works. If I backup up a 3TB folder and the fragment size is 20GB, Netbackup creates an image ID and associate N number of fragments (20GB) with the same image ID. However, if I need to restore an 1 MB file from Nth fragment , would the Netbackup need scan all the fragments ,from 1 to last(3TB), to restore an 1 MB file?
The situation here is , we backup and keeps the data in the cloud. But while restoring a single file, we dont find any other options than bring all the fragments back locally. It appears to be really crazy as the cloud restore cost is too high and unpredicable at time.
The response from the Symantec engineer :- "It sounds like you are wondering how to find the section of the backup image that contains the info/files you want to avoid restoring, or rather loading, the whole backup. This can not be done. The backup info is stored in the .f header file which tells NBU what files it needs to do the restore. It will have to, essentially, traverse the entire set of files to get what it needs and validate that the backup is "good". There is no way to figure out which file has the ones you want OR restore the info from just those files."
Any thoughts ?

thanks for your help with this. I am not an expert on nbu, so I am having a really bad time using it.
I did a full back of my filesystems between 1/1/2015 and 2/28/2015. These full backup has a retention period of 3 months.
Some users need some files restored. However, when I search for the files in the directory, it reports empty.
Please any help with this will be really appreciated.

I have expired close to 100 + backup images from the MSDP disk pool 7.6 .
Queue processing and compaction run manullay to completed sucessfully .
Do we have any option to start the data intergiry check to remove garbages from the disk pool.
Is there any parameter we can speiciy in spa.cfg to run this intergrity check often.

I have expired a backup image from the MSDP which is around 8 TB in size & De-dup rate for this image is 42 %.
nbdelete /Queue processing/compaction ran at disk pool but there is no space released to disk pool ..not even bytes.
Earlier we have replicated this same image to target domain using nbreplicate command (same as source retention).
This backup image is still alive on target domain. But expired forcefully in source domain .would this control anything related to space reclaim in source disk pool?
nbstlutil list doesn't shows anything releated to the same image in source .( expired already)

Does symantec Netbackup capacity based licenses include data encryption when sending backups to tapes? We know that with Capacity Based license include all the features except NDMP; but does it include Data Encryption as well?

Source: Drive "D:\" --> SAN mount point (fata disks) and allocated four folders as STU (data consists of Exhange DB,file system etc)
Destination: Drive "G"\ --> New SAN mount point (SAS 15K RPM disks)
Could anyone tell me how to move the data and should preserve all backup policy settings and retention period.

NBU 7.6.0.3 on Windows platform
Backing up EMC Isilon NAS using NDMP protocol.
We are about to make some security changes (permissions) that will replicate through all the data structures on the NAS. While the files will not actually change (archive bit and date/time stamps remain the same), the security will change. From the testing I've done, NBU will see the security changes as a change to the files and an incremental backup would pick up ALL files as if it was a full backup. I would need to run a new full backup to reset that. Is this correct? Is security treated as a change of its own? Is there any way around that to prevent the immediate need for a full backup so that I could coordinate them manually? Any tricks to make NBU NOT see it as a change?

Of course one of them would be master server. I think Additional client license is enough.
What is the Enterprice license?
Now we didn't implement the netbackup soft to the mentioned machines.
In future may be required to use the flash backup ,if exist many small files.

I am a little confused about how it is supposed to be configured. in the VMWare Access hosts I place the all the blades of my ESX Cluster? in Credentials for Virtual Machine Servers, I create a new "VMWare Virtual Center Server" and place credentials for my Vcenter? Is this correct? I keep getting an error 25 trying to authenticate, and all I see in the nbproxy log is it trying to use bpcd to connect to the ESX servers.

But when I try to look in the backup image as VMware backup type I find something very strange (screenshot attached). In the archiveis not visible evennormal MS Windowsfile structure (C:\Windows, C:\Program Files and so on).
When I try to look in the image as MS-Sharepoint backup type BAR can't find it.

There is some issues in my enviornment , We have production site and DR site and it is single domain setup .
I have taken backup of a DR client in DR media server Disk storage unit (Linux FT media server ) , now i want to move this backup images from Disk to tape
I have strated duplication job mannuly from Disk to tape (Serached images in catalog and salected duplication and destination tape storage unit job started ).
Tpae storage unit media server is windows 2008 R2, now problem is here that it should use DR media server to read and write from Disk to tape because this backup is taken in DR through DR media server , Duplication is also started in DR through media server . but insted of this it is using HO media server to read and DR media server to write (Head office media server is windows 2008 R2) ,
Step did to solve :- we removed the HO media server from storage servres access and and started the duplication job it failed with 2074 status and below is job details .
Netbackup version :- Master NBU 7.6.0.4 OS windows 2008 R2, Windows Media server is 7.6.0.4 NBU , OS 2008 R2, Linux media server is 7.5.0.5 NBU and Red Hat linux 6 .4. Client is HP-UX 11.31 ,netbackup 7.5.0.5 .
