Dear Friends'

I have some question about BMR restore please help me .

I have a Master Server on windows 2008 R2 (64 bit ) also BMR master server ,with 7.6.0.4 netbackup version ,

Media server (Also BMR boot server) is Red hat Linux 6 with netbackup 7.5.0.5 (64 bit) , and client is Red hat linux 4 32 bit with 6.5.6 netbackup version . this

now i have requirment to restore  from this netbackup BMR client to VM machine ,

is it possible to do this type of restore .

Moving dedup backups between 2 dif. Masters

OS is 2008 r2, NBU ver 7604.  I have a Master/Media server with dedup images on it and I want to move those to a new existing master with a different server name and dedup pool.  Is there any easy way to do this short of off loading them to tape and then importing?  If not in 7604 would there be a solution in 7611?

Catalog Backup Issue & Vault Job Failing Nightly

So I just took over my company's tape backup system so I'm new to NetBackup.  Last week I had a catalog backup hang for days.  And I think this was not allowing my vault job to run so I wasn't getting tapes ejected nightly like I'm used to.  The catalog job wouldn't cancel so I had to stop all NetBackup services and restart a few times for it to clear.  After that, the Catalog Backup is running better but the vault job is still failing although I do get a tape or two to eject nightly now.  I don't really know if these two issues are seperate or if they work together...remember I'm new.  So basically, this is what I got now:

The catalog backup child job is successful stating "the requested operation was successfully completed(0)" but the parent job says "the requested operation was partially successful(1).  The job was successfully completed, but some files may have been busy or unaccessible. See the problems report or the client's logs for more details."

Looking at the problems log, this is what I see for the latest Catalog backup:

I'm guessing I need to clear some file locks but I'm unsure where?

The Vault job fails stating "vault catalog backup failed(294)".  However it does seem to be ejecting some tapes with valid images on them from time to time.  Here's the latest Vault failure.

Hello Experts,

Pls help with the below query.

When we stop nbpemreq -suspend_scheduling it stops the schedular and automatic backups dont initiate however, if we can fire manual backup and these run smoothly. Pls suggest if we stop the nbpem deamon is it same? or manual backups wont start?

Media server hardware replacement leads to slower tape throughput

I replaced hardware for a media server according to TECH77811 and am now getting much slower throughput on tape backups.  The master is Linux RHEL 6.3 running NB 7.6.0.4.  Original media server was Solaris 10 SUN FIRE X4270 with 4X1GB aggregate NIC, running NB 7.5.0.7 .  The new media server is HP DL380p G8 with 10GB NIC, RHEL 6.3 running NB 7.6.0.4 (actually installed 7.5.0.7 prior to hardware swap,  added the media server to 7.6.0.4 master, upgraded to 7.6.0.1, and then 7.6.0.4).  No changes on LTO4 robot.  

Clients are running a mix of 6.5.4 and 7.5.0.7.  What is happening is that many, if not all, backups are throughputting at 7 MB/s, which were previously at 30 MB/s, on the SUN media server.

On the new media server:

 sysctl -a | grep kernel.sem
kernel.sem = 300        307200  32      1024

I played around with SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS = 229376 and 262144, NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS = 10 and 128, respectively but I haven't noticed any improvemnts.  Note that the original Sun media server had no SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS nor NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS files (so it was using defaults)

Backups of the media server's files straight to tape give 80MB/s so this does not appear to be a HBA issue.

I'm running out of ideas on where and what to look for.  Support says they can't help me unless I hire Support services.

We just received our license for ndmp support and am in the process of configure for NetApp filer.

License installed - No Problems

When a backup policy is run I receive the following:

Slot based backup in Netbackup

Hi All,

I got a requirement to implement a slot based backups in netbackup 7.5 , master server,media server -windows 2008r2. I am praparing media pool for each day and Using "override policy volume pool" to make sure that specific slot tape used for that backups.

Slot1 - Monday_offsite

Slot2- Tuesday_Offsite..etc..

First time i will create all media pools for entire week and move tape to perticular media pool, but when the retention period is completed these tapes will to go scratch automatically.

How to move the tapes to particular media pool after rentention perdiod is over.

VMware backups snapshot creation

cannot connect on socket, when tried to open backup policy

When i tried to open the policy it gives me an cannot connect on socket error message, could some one help with this issue please, same will fix rebooting the media sever.

Master server marking media server disk pool as offline

On a daily basis our Master server is marking a media server disk pool as offline for a period of 30 minutes causing backups to fail with

Error nbjm(pid=5516) NBU status: 2106, EMM status: Storage Server is down or unavailable  
Disk storage server is down(2106)

When the disk pool is marked as down the server does not seem to be under any great load and communication and networking between the master and media servers is also ok. 

The following errors appear in disk pool logs several times.

  • bptm image copy is not ready, retry attempt: 0 of 500 object is busy, cannot be closed
  • nbemm The usage of one or more system resources has exceeded a warning level. Operations will or could be suspended. Please take action immediately to remedy this situation.

Any advice how to troubleshoot this issue would be appreciated.

Hi,

Can someone let me know the command to change the backup date of an exisiting backup. If this can be done ?

I have backed up some old data (end of year backup 2009) and want change the date so it reflects the original date of the data. This means anyone searching the catalog can search by date and find this backup.

Hi

I have installed 7.6.0.1 Netbackup Media server on a Redhat 6.5 server recently, and i forgot to exclude the full qualified domain name from the hostname. This media server has nothing running to it whatsoever, and is just added to the Master server. How can i easily change the hostname??

I know decomissioning is mentioned, but do i need that for a media server which litteraly has no function yet apart from being a member of a master server?

Please provide detail information on how i should proceed. Thanks.

Hello team,

I'am trying with netbackup 7.5 to backup sharepoint farm,  containing  SQL aliases ->spqsl  (Windows 2012 for Sharepoint Farm Servers ,  SQL 2013 using SQL Alias for the farms.) , but got the following infos :

- Error bpbrm(pid=5360) bpcd on SPSQL exited with status 48: client hostname could not be found
- Info bpbkar32(pid=0) done. status: 48: client hostname could not be found  

how can avoid such backup problems regarding MS sharepoint , and make a successfull backup ?

Hi,

Getting below error and backup got failed :-

unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available(96)

I have some used tapes on Volume pools but they have enough space to accommodate backup.Kindly help.

NetBackup ver : 7.6.0.1

NetBackup server OS : Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition

NetBackup Client OS : HP-UX 11.31
