Throw old backupid(s) at an SLP

Hi, 7.6.0.3 on HP-UX

Does anybody know if its possible to throw old backupids at an SLP.

Have lots of tape consolidations to do and doing it manually, ensuring I end up with the correct number of images before expiring the original is somewhat tiresome !

Letting the SLP handle them would be much easier.

Many thanks - Darren

Hello again guys,

Master W2K8 7.5.0.7

Media Linux SuSe 11 SP2 7.5.0.7

FEWS and BESQL Windows 2008 Standard R2

I have got everything working hunky dory till last week and now sharepoint incremental backups are finishing partially.

Full, GRT and VMware Sharepoint backups all working fine. It's just the incrementals that reports status 1. I have checked bpbkar logs, bpresolvers logs on both FEWS and Backend SQL but couldn't find anything.. "getting old maybe"

Backup policies with multiple retention levels

Hello,

What is the best way to setup a backup with multiple retention levels? For example, for a number of backups, we are looking at configuring the following configuration:

Monthly full backups of the data. In a given 3 month period, 2 of the backups should be kept for 2 years and the last one kept for longer than that.

There is also talk of making the longer retention backup occur in specific months (not finalized yet).

Currently we do have some frequency based backup that do this on a weekly level and seem to not be running 2 backups in the same windows, but I am not sure how this will translate when the windows are a month long.

We are currently running Netbackup 7.6

Having a weird error every now and again over here, when ever I try to export tapes from my library (Spectralogic T120) I get the error,"Media Access port already contains media"

What's weird is that I'm able to update the inventory on the library and it displays correctly.

I ran a /scan and I see 9 MAP slots (WHICH IS WEIRD BECAUSE IT SHOULD ONLY HAVE 8)

Device Identifier: "SPECTRA PYTHON          91180056CF"

Device Type    : SDT_CHANGER

NetBackup Robot Type: 8

Removable      : Yes

Device Supports: SCSI-3

Number of Drives : 4

Number of Slots  : 95

Number of Media Access Ports: 9

Any ideas how I'd go about troubleshooting this ?

Hi All

I recently installed NBU 7.6.1. My backups are running except for a few clients that cannot connect. However when I try to restore the all clients cannot connect to the master server.

I tried to put the SQL Credentials manually and that does not work.

So this is kind of a very broad question that I was hoping to just get a discussion going about. I am new to doing capacity planning, but in my new role I have to do literally everything for the environment. In my previous work locations we had a team that did all the capacity planning for drive distribution, how many tape drives were needed, tapes, disk storage size and all that good stuff. Now that this falls on me I am hoping to get some help as far as capacity planning is concerned. For starters I would like to be able to provide management accurate data on how much disk storage we need in order to put our entire environment on disk. I have OpsCenter up and running as well as an application called Splunk which can tap into any log or command output that Netbackup has or can run. At this time it seems as though all they really do here is go off of the nbdeployutil and use the charged capacity total number. I am looking for ideas/input on what I can really do to track capacity as well as growth.

Hello,

We are having an issue with connecting our backup server connected to our domain and a workgroup computer in our DMZ. We have attempted to update the host files, inputted the server directly in the registry, checked the firewall settings, and checked communication between server and clients.

Note:

Master server (10.1.12.64) is connected to our domain, and the client server (10.1.100.25) is on a workgroup.

I'm baffled why our firewall IP is trying to be used as the master/media server? Below is the log file from the client server.

Hi

In the properties of my MSDP storage server - I can see the Catalog Logical size, Catalog Files count & Deduplication ratio mentioned in the Storage server properties.

Can you please explain what are these parameters, especially am not sure about the catalog logical size, because the size mentioned is very large than the total size of the Disk pool.????
