This has nothing to do with BMR.  We have the same issue and we don't use BMR.

We have a case open right now.  We're getting it with GRT backups of our AD servers to MSDP (NBU 7.6.0.4 on Windows 2012).

Hi - page 148 of the NetBackup v7.6.1 BMR Admin Guide - says that Windows NetBackup Clients use ports 13724 and 13782, but oddly does not list port 1556.  Doesn't look right to me.  Can anyone confirm for sure?

Slow performance on FlashBackup Windows restore

Hello Everybody!!

I am running backups on a physical server windows client server with a lot of little files on three filesystem drive. The backup is configured as flashbackup because the backup window is restricted and the amount of information is 3TB per filesystem.

The backup is running with multistream. During backup the throughput is 45MB/sec.

When restoring the throughput is 3MB/s. I have setted up the NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS, NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS_RESTORE,  SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS, NET_BUFFER_SZ. There is no performance improvement.

Also the activity monitor does not reflect any change. The bptm log shows io_init: buffer size for read is 262144.

Air Replication Job Fails with Status Code 84 media write error

Hi,

Im getting error on my replication job with status 84. Is it because the replicating server nbu6 encountered a disk failed on its EVA storage? Although it was replaced already and status now is still levelling. Maybe from the source media server - nbu4, when trying to replicate to other site nbu6 it cannot fully complete cause of the replaced disk currently levelling?

Restore files from a duplicated image

Hi,

I am writing some kind of FAT for duplication features.

The scenario I have is the following one:

120px_Ejemplo Arquitectura NBU con MSDP.png

In one site (SITE 1) a make a backup of a windows client and then a make a duplication to a MSDP disk.

In the SITE1 there are two media servers: mediawin and mediawindup.

What I want to do is to shutdown mediawin and recover the backup from mediawindup.

When mediawin is powered on a can see both media servers and I can recover from mediawindup, but when it is powered off in the tab of media server appears "default", a cannot select anything and the restore fails...

What is wrong with this scenario?

Thanks

  • There is enough space in / disk
  • media IDs are not being used for illegal characters.
  • Communication with library and vice versa ,using robtest is fine
  • Library side query issues on ACS server looking good
  • all  lsm, lmu, cap, port showing onlne status.

I have attached snipped media manager logs for backup1 . Any help would be highly appreciated.

NetBackup and 3Par VSS

Necesito una solución

A couple of months ago I posted about backups not crossing mount points to get data and now I can shed a bit more information on the troubleshooting but I am still a bit stumped and would appreciate your advice.

We are migrating a bunch of our VM's over to a 3PAR 7400 which also includes VM's that have RDM's attached. Since the migration, what we have noticed is that the data inside the RDM does not get backed up by Netbackup when using Snapshots. The backup completes with a 0, so I always assume the data is sitting in my tapes or Datadomains...until I try to restore. As soon as I turn Snapshot off, and use Cross Mount Points, the data gets backed up with a problem, however it seems to run 2-3 times slower than a snapshot backup. SInce we are talking 10-15 Tb of data, I need a quicker solution.

I have talked with Symantec about this and they suggested just turning off the Snapshot, however my backups for 7 servers takes approximately 6 days to complete when I do that.  Symantec's other suggestion is the 3PAR VSS writer, however that requires a license we don't have on the 3PAR.

I'm open to any suggestions as the one's i've received from my VAR when we set this up 3 years ago, appear to not be the greatest set of best practices.

Is there a way to dynamically adjust policy’s “Backup Selection List” just before backup starts

Hello,

I have a configuration question and wanted to get the groups input on this.

We use NetBackup (7.6) to backup data from NetApp filers  and I am trying to configure NetBackup in such way that it could backup data from a netapp snapshot while exact snapshot name is not known beforehand.

I think this essentially boils down to ability to dynamically adjust policy’s “Backup Selection List” just before backup starts.

One possible solution seems to be running bpplinclude utility and modify the list from within bpstart_notify script of the policy which “Backup Selection List” needs to be modified.

A concern I have is that it may not be possible and/or supported to use bpplinclude to modify “Backup Selection List” of a policy from within its own bpstart_notify script and for the change to take effect during the same policy run.

Thank you for your help!

Error Code:37 - operation requested by an invalid server

Hello All,

I am trying to run a NFS share backup but it fails with Error code 37: Operation requested by an invalid server.

In the storage unit created, i select media server as my Linux host and when i click on browse button, i can browse the destination in the Linux server (which is the mount point of the filesystem/share created). View properties in the stoarge unit shows proper connectivity.

In the policy, i select, policy type as Standard and On the RHS, i select Foolow NFS. In the Client Selection i select the LInux server(media server) and for backup selection, i browse and select the local data from the same Linux server.

Troubleshooting steps tried:

1. Checked if the media server info is available in the EMM database

….\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -listhost –verbose

Media server name was available there.

2. In the host properties of the master server,  the media server name is added in Media Servers box.

3. Restarted NBU services.

4. Checked /etc/hosts files and /etc/resolv.conf files and the entries are available and proper over there.

5. Tried to clear up the corrupt lock files (if any) by using the folloing steps:

  •  Stopped  all NetBackup daemons/services on the master server
  •  While all NetBackup daemons/services on the master server are stopped, rename the bprd.ddirectory to bprd.d_old
  •  Recreate a new, empty bprd.d directory on the master server
  •  Start the master server NetBackup daemons/services

All the above steps tried did not give any good results and the backup still fails with the same error code.

NBU MAster: Windows 2008

NBU Version: 7.6.0.1

Media Server: Linux

Any leads will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Cheers!!!!

Hello Forum,

I want to take the backup of exchange 2013 sever on disk storage unit.

since i have multiple db's in exchange server i have to stream it (approx 20 streams per server).

There are around 15 exchange servers with 20 db's each.

What max number of stream i can set on disk storage unit (which is on SAN (sata disk)) for getting the better performance and not hampering the media server as well. Media server also has tape drives and other SAN clone based backup running on it.

Request you to pls. suggest on this.

Hello!

After we update solaris 10 update 3 to solaris 10 update 5, sg driver can't adding C4 drives.

I've checked config files st.conf, sg.conf, st.links all looks fine. Both config files have entries with scsi target 2 lun 0 and target 3 lun 0 (tape drives). Both drivers are loaded, but sgscan all does not show tape drives. We tried to reinstall sg drivers, but without success.

NDMP Backup failing

Necesito una solución

Hi

I have an issue with NDMP backups failing which I'm hoping to find a solution for. I have configured a new appliance running 7.6.0.3 and added it into an existing master media config. Master is windows running 7.6.0.2 and the other media is RHEL running 7.6.0.2. The ndmp host is a netapp already configured and I can successfully write ndmp backups from it to disk storage unit on the master/media which is a Quantum DXI disk pool. The new appliance has an MSDP pool, configured as a disk storage unit and I am trying to write ndmp backups to it. I have added a host file entry on the appliance to it is using the correct Netapp interface. I can telnet to the Netapp on that interface from the appliance on 10000 and tpautoconf -verify also works from the appliance. When I start a backup, I can see a new connection on the netapp by running ndmpd status so I know its making a connection. However, that backup fails with error 99. The below are snippets from ndmpagent, bptm and bpbrm
