Hi,
We are migrating to Netbackup 7.5. We have two sites connected by a WAN link with a Data Domain box on each site, and several media servers and client server on each site.
I want to ensure that backups aren't performed across the WAN link, but I am confused about the best way to achieve this. I don't want Media1 on Site1 to backup Client2 on Site2, because that would mean the data would be passed from Site2 to the media server on Site1, then passed back again to be written to the storage unit on the Site2 Data Domain box, then duplicated back once again to the Site1 DataDomain box, which would be madness.
As I see it there are two methods:
1) Storage Units (SU)
Backup policies have a Storage Lifecycle Policy (SLP) which controls which SU the backup is sent to first, and then which SU a duplicate is sent to. You can enable only specific media servers to be able to write to that SU, therefore you can ensure that backups for Site1 clients are written to the Site1 Su.
2) Media Server Server List
You can add specific client clients to the server list of media servers, (but all media servers can still write to all SUs. For example, you would add only Site1 clients to Site1 media servers, which would prevent Site2 clients from being backed up by Site1 media servers. And vice versa.
Can someone advise of the best approach? Would both of these work or is there any even better way?
Thanks
